Mama, I’m Coming Home: A Tribute to The Prince of Darkness

Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne can be described as one of the most iconic couples in rock music. The two met back in 1970 when Sharon’s father Don Arden managed Ozzy’s band “Black Sabbath. By the time 1979 had hit Ozzy decided to start his solo career and the two started dating.  In 1982, Ozzy and Sharon got married and had three children together. The song “Mama, I’m Coming Home” wasn’t about Osbourne’s actual mother, instead, it was a message to his wife Sharon who stood by his side unwavering through his struggles with alcohol and drug addiction. “Mama” was a pet name that he had for her. While hers for him was “Dad.” The song was featured on Ozzy’s sixth solo album titled “No More Tears” and is one of a few songs from the album that Motörhead’s Lemmy Kilmister co-wrote. Songs such as “I Don’t Want to Change the World”, “Desire”, “Hellraiser”, and “Road to Nowhere” are amongst others. 

There’s a lot we can learn from a love like Ozzy and Sharon’s. They are the epitome of what a real relationship should be. Nothing is perfect so, I’m sure they had their struggles but they dealt with it and stood by each other for over fifty years. When they said the words “Till Death Do Us Part” when they married in 82’ they meant every word. Cause now our beloved “Prince of Darkness” who's been such a huge part of many of our lives for so many decades has now gone home and just weeks after his final show. He lived like a legend and died like a legend despite losing his ability to walk due to suffering from Parkinson’s. Despite this, he still decided that he wanted to do one final show. That is what made him the legend and the timeless artist he was and always will be. He cares about his fans, his beautiful wife Sharon, and the beautiful family they shared. 

John Michael “Ozzy” Osbourne is one of the strongest most influential English musicians of the 70s who has cheated death so many times and now at the age of 76 he's finally going home. He's sold over 100 million records with his band Black Sabbath and also as a solo artist. Some of his most popular songs other than the song “Mama, I’m Coming” include songs, such as, “Crazy Train”, “Shot in the Dark”, “Paranoid” as part of Black Sabbath, and “Close My Eyes for Ever” which was done with Lita Ford are a short list of a few. He's also known for his reality TV series “The Osbournes”, being nicknamed “The Prince of Darkness” and “The Godfather of heavy metal”, along with his tattoos. One of which was the letters of his name tattooed across his knuckles. He also wrote a book titled “I am Ozzy” back in 2008 and let's not forget that night in 1982 he bit the head off a bat which, is something only Ozzy would do. Despite his on stage persona as “Prince of Darkness” he was a Christian. Ozzy was spiritual but, didn’t believe in organized religion despite being raised Catholic. He was also seen praying and making the sign of the cross before going on stage and has even used Christian imagery in his music, such as, in songs like “After Forever.” Ozzy was a gentle soul with a big heart. He was the opposite of what he was on stage because, off stage he was just a beautiful man with a beautiful soul. One that’s inspired so many people and touched so many lives.

This is the Ozzy we have been loving, admiring, and watching perform for over 40 years, and the Ozzy we will always remember! Safe travels home Ozzy you’ll never be forgotten and your legacy will always be remembered by us fans, your beloved wife Sharon, your six beautiful kids, and all the amazing grandchildren you’ve left behind.
